Well 2020 is now here, and time to think about attending our 16th 5th Maintenance Battalion Reunion. This year we are having it in Rapid City, SD. and Mt. Rushmore, decieded on at the Gettysburg reunion last year. Both veterans and wives voted. 2020 was a west of the Mississippi year Next year it will move East. The reunion will be held from Sunday Aug. 23rd to Thursday Aug.27th. There will be a buffet banquet on the last night.

We will be staying at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center 2111 N. LaCrosse St. The rates are $117.00, 9% Sales Tax plus $2.00 Occupancy Tax. The hotel is 3 miles from the downtown area.
The hotel has a lot to offer, free WI-Fi, a restaurant / bar on site, heated indoor pool, free parking and much more.
The Rapid City Regional Airport is 12 miles away, and the hotel has free airport courtesy shuttle. Also there is a Mall right next door in case you forgot something or just want to shop.
It would be wise, if like last year, you get the Rapid City, SD Visitors Guide 2020. You can get it at 1-800-487-3223 or www.VisitRapidCity.com They will send it to you free.

A little about Rapid City. Rapid City was founded in 1876, the result of gold being discovered in the Black Hills. Completed in 1941,
Mt Rushmore is a major tourist attraction about 25 miles southwest of Rapid City. The South Dakota Air and Space Museum, about 15 minutes away, is home to 150 minuteman missile siloes and tours of a missile solo are available. Rapid City is known as The City Of Presidents not only for Mount Rushmore, but for the 43 life-size bronze presidential statues on the street corners throughout downtown. See if you can find them all. Also in 2011 it was named the Most Patriotic Small City in the United States.
We do not have an agenda as yet. You may need a car or we can car pool. We do know we will be going to Mount Rushmore on Tuesday or Wednesday but that could change because of the weather. What a great group picture that will be with Mt. Rushmore in the back ground. Why I say you may need a car is Sturgis is 28 miles away,
Deadwood is an old west town with lots of history museums and Casinos and about 15 miles beyond Sturgis. It could be a day trip if anyone is interested. Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are from this area.

Mount Rushmore is 35 miles, Custer State Park is 45 miles, Crazy Horse Memorial is 45 miles. All of them with in an hour. There is also a loop through the Bad Lands National Park.

We do not have to do everything together. If you want to see something before this or that do it. Tell us about what you did at the get together in the evening. Also where you ate good or bad. It will help all of us. Remember Minervas is in the hotel and is offering us a 10% discount during our stay. We hope this reunion is as good if not better then the past 15 reunions. The United States is a beautiful country as we all know, and our reunions have taken us across it. We have been to different time zones, and we tried to be fair. We had 5 in the eastern time,5 in the central, 3 in mountain with Rapid City, and 3 in the Pacific. We have been to places of beauty, fun and historic. We started these reunions with a web site, and had our 1st reunion in Las Vegas in 2005. Over the years we have had some bumps in the roads we have traveled, but that is in the past. So lets move on. There will be more updates like registration cost, buffet menu, deadline date and anything else you need to know. Remember you get a shirt and a 16th reunion pin and that costs money. One last thing we do not pay dues to be in the 5th Maintenance Battalion (DS). We paid our dues by being there, but donations are always welcome. In closing we hope to see you in Rapid City / Mount Rushmore in August. (Pray for great weather)
